The FBI has issued a warning highlighting cyber criminals are increasingly exploiting vulnerabilities in DeFi (decentralised finance) platforms to steal cryptocurrency. In a public service announcement, the FBI said it has observed cyber criminals exploiting vulnerabilities in the smart contracts governing DeFi platforms to steal cryptocurrency. The FBI also highlighted between January and March 2022, cyber criminals stole USD 1.3 billion in cryptocurrencies, of which 97 percent was stolen from DeFi platform exploits.
