London, 15.10.26 - Plenitude, the specialist economic crime firm, has joined the Financial Services Skills Compact as a Supporter, committing to help tackle the skills gaps opening up across financial services as AI reshapes how the work gets done.
The Compact, led by the Financial Services Skills Commission (FSSC), supported by HM Treasury, Skills England, TheCityUK and the City of London Corporation, brings government and industry together to close skills gaps across financial services. Launched in July 2026, the initiative asks regulated signatories to name a senior executive accountable for closing skills gaps and publish progress annually.
The FSSC’s first phase of research for HM Treasury, A Workforce Transformed, set out the scale of the challenge, including the potential for significant task automation across financial services and pressure on the future supply of highly skilled workers. The second phase looks at what the sector should actually do to address these challenges, with the recommendations set to be published in early 2027.
For economic crime teams, the implications extend beyond learning how to use new technology. As AI, machine learning, graph analytics, behavioural analytics and automation take on more detection, triage and analysis, firms will need people who can interpret outputs, challenge decisions, recognise when systems are not working as intended and remain accountable for the effectiveness of the control.
Plenitude believes this makes skills development and AI adoption a control issue as much as a workforce issue.
