Key updates include:
➡️ Risk Model Testing: AMLA will collect data to validate models used to assess money laundering risk consistently across EU financial institutions;
➡️ Direct Supervision Pathway: The exercise will inform the 2027 selection of up to 40 entities for AMLA’s direct supervision starting in 2028;
➡️ Two-Tier Scope: Data will be gathered from firms potentially eligible for AMLA supervision and a representative sample remaining under national supervision; and
➡️ Harmonised Assessments: Insights will support a common EU risk assessment methodology and more consistent supervisory outcomes.
✅ Firms operating in the EU who will be directly or indirectly supervised by AMLA should ensure their data quality controls and data governance frameworks are robust and use the exercise to prepare for more centralised AML/CFT oversight.
