Home Office Publishes White Paper on a New Policing Model

The Home Office released a white paper on ‘A New Model for Policing.

The paper announced plans to create a new National Police Service (NPS), aimed at tackling complex national crime.

Key developments include:

➡️ National Crime Mandate: The NPS will take over responsibility for counter-terrorism, fraud and serious organised crime investigations;

➡️ Agency Consolidation: Existing bodies, including the National Crime Agency (NCA), Counter Terror Policing, and regional organised crime units, will be brought under a single national structure;

➡️ Fraud as a National Priority: The reforms recognise fraud as a complex, modern crime better handled through centralised expertise and intelligence; and

➡️ Shared Technology & Intelligence: The NPS will set national standards, coordinate training, and procure advanced technologies, such as facial recognition, for use across police forces.

✅ Firms should expect closer coordination between law enforcement bodies, more centralised investigations into fraud and organised crime, and a stronger national approach to tackling economic crime under the new policing model.
