UK Updates Whistleblower Protections with 2025 Amendment

The Public Interest Disclosure (Prescribed Persons) (Amendment) Order 2025 was laid before the UK Parliament.

The order aims to strengthen the implementation and enforcement of sanctions by helping whistleblowers qualify for protections when disclosing certain information to the relevant department.

Key takeaways from the order include:

➡️ Prescribing additional matters that can be disclosed to the Secretary of State for Business and Trade;

➡️ Prescribing additional matters that can be disclosed to the Secretary of State for Transport;

➡️ Including HM Treasury as a prescribed person.

🗓️ Firms should review their whistleblowing policies and sanctions escalation mechanisms to ensure they are robust and available to all relevant parties ahead of the order entering force on 26th June.
