UK ECCTA 2023: Second Implementation Progress Report

The UK Government released the second progress report on the implementation of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA).

 

 

The report only concerns Parts 1 to 3 of the ECCTA in line with the commitment to report on progress provided for in section 213 (1) of the Act.

Key takeaways from the report include:

➡️ Between March 2024 and March 2025, 100,400 entities have been affected by the query and removal of false, misleading, or incorrect information on the Companies House register;

➡️ In the same period, Companies House issued 419 penalty warning notices and 192 penalty notices;

➡️ Using trialled methods, 10,200 suspicious applications to the register were rejected; and

➡️ Financial penalties for failure to register or to update information on Companies House were issued to 444 and 111 overseas entities, respectively.

✅ Firms should review their controls focused on change in business ownership and customer due diligence to leverage the bolstered accuracy and reliability of the Companies House register.
