UK Announces New Measures to Tackle Global Fraud and Online Scams

The UK government announced a package of UK-led measures, backed by the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, to tackle global fraud networks and online scams.

Key developments include:

➡️ Faster intelligence-sharing: Partners will share intelligence quicker to identify fraud operations spanning multiple countries, including scam centres;

➡️ Industry recommendations: Telecommunications providers, technology companies and financial institutions (FIs) will work with partners to develop recommendations strengthening industry action against online scams and financial crime; and

➡️ Cross-border focus: The measures respond to organised crime groups increasingly exploiting global communications networks, digital platforms and financial systems to target victims across jurisdictions.

✅ Financial institutions, technology companies and telecommunications providers should prepare to engage with the forthcoming UK-led industry recommendations, review their capability to identify and disrupt fraud typologies linked to scam centres, and support intelligence-sharing initiatives connected to the INTERPOL Global Fraud Taskforce.
