FATF Publishes Outcomes from June 2026 Plenary

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) announced the outcomes from its June 2026 Plenary.

Key actions firms should take:

Standards update: Review TF sanctions controls to ensure escalation processes incorporate appropriate carve-outs for humanitarian assistance and basic human needs, aligned with the update to Recommendation 6 incorporating UNSCRs 2664 & 2761;

Grey List updates: Update country risk lists to reflect the addition of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iraq, and the removal of Algeria and Namibia from the Grey List;

Public-private partnerships: Look out for a new publication launching in July, setting out different models for information sharing - an increasingly important activity for enhancing effectiveness;

New MERs: Firms with exposure to Canada and Türkiye should review their newly adopted mutual evaluation reports (MERs) to understand key weaknesses in the respective country frameworks;

Payment transparency: A new consultation, closing 21 August, sets out proposed guidance to support the implementation of Recommendation 16 on payment transparency. Firms should assess this guidance against their payment control frameworks to identify any potential impacts to their current approach;

Emerging risks: Look out for three new reports focused on TF and the gaming industry, and incorporate relevant insights into typology libraries and detection rules where appropriate; and

Virtual assets (VAs): A targeted update on the implementation of FATF Standards on VAs, alongside a report on regulatory challenges in the sector, will provide firms with a clearer view of key risks to consider when dealing with VASPs.
