UK Open Consultation on Money Laundering Regulations Effectiveness

The UK Government has launched a consultation on improving the effectiveness of The Money Laundering Regulations 2017 (MLRs).

The consultation considers changes to improve the MLRs while minimising burdens on legitimate customers.

The consultation covers four core themes:

  • Making customer due diligence more proportionate and effective;
  • Strengthening system coordination;
  • Providing clarity on scope of the MLRs; and
  • Reforming registration requirements for the Trust Registration Service.

HM Treasury seeks to hear from a wide range of stakeholders in response to the consultation, including regulated businesses and their customers, supervisory bodies, law enforcement agencies, civil society organisations and members of the public.

Feedback to the consultation can be submitted until 11:59pm on 9 June 2024.
